Frequently Asked Questions
Bedford covers about ten square miles, so choosing an area here is less about picking a side of town and more about picking which corridor you want to live along. These areas stand out for renters:
The Forest Ridge Drive Area
This is the parks-and-trails side of the city, built around Forest Ridge Drive. Amherst Apartments sits on Amherst Drive just off it, roughly a mile from the 68 acre Generations Park at Boys Ranch and under a mile from the ball fields at Meadow Park Athletic Complex. The Linear Trails corridor has one of its two endpoints on Forest Ridge Drive, which makes a walk or a bike ride an option that does not start with a drive. The Central Drive Corridor
Central Drive runs through the middle of Bedford and collects much of the civic activity. Central Park sits at 1201 Central Drive with the Roy Savage Pool and a full basketball court, the Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD administration offices are further along the same street, and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hurst-Euless-Bedford is a short distance away on Hospital Parkway. The Old Bedford School on School Lane, a restored 1915 landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, now houses city senior programming downstairs and community arts groups upstairs.North Hurst Along Boulevard 26
Just west of Bedford, this corridor carries most of the area's retail and a good share of its jobs. Tarrant County College Northeast Campus sits on West Harwood Road, North East Mall anchors the shopping on Melbourne Road, and NRH2O Family Water Park is a few minutes up Boulevard 26 in North Richland Hills. Interstate 820 is a short drive west, which opens up the rest of Tarrant County.Colleyville, Immediately North
For renters who want more green space between buildings, Colleyville sits immediately north of Bedford. The Colleyville Nature Center on Mill Wood Drive, about a mile and a half northwest of Amherst Drive, offers ponds, wooded trails and a playground in a quiet, low-traffic setting. It is close enough to Bedford that the shopping and highway access do not change much.Bedford's identity is mostly a matter of position: ten square miles of Tarrant County with downtown Fort Worth roughly 13 miles one direction and downtown Dallas about 21 miles the other. Niche ranked the city #7 among the best places to live in Tarrant County for 2026. Here is what that position actually delivers:
Equal Standing Between Two Downtowns
State Highway 121 and State Highway 183 run together through Bedford as the Airport Freeway, and Highway 360, about five miles east in Euless, heads south toward Arlington. DFW International Airport sits about six and a half miles east northeast in a straight line. Bedford's own 2020 census population was 49,928 across those ten square miles.A 68 Acre Park and a 32-Acre Trail Easement
Generations Park at Boys Ranch covers 68 acres and holds an urban lake with a spray fountain, a jogging path around the water, a disc golf course, ball fields and an outdoor water park. Separately, the city's Linear Trails follow 32 acres of Oncor easement across northeast Bedford between Woodpark Lane and Forest Ridge Drive. Both are inside two miles of Amherst Apartments.A Corporate Base Inside Ten Miles
The stretch of Highway 121 north of Bedford is unusually dense with headquarters. GameStop and Kubota North America both run their operations from Grapevine, Sabre Corporation is headquartered in Southlake, and Charles Schwab moved its corporate headquarters to Westlake in 2021. American Airlines runs its Skyview campus in Fort Worth next to the airport.Water Park Country
NRH2O Family Water Park opened in 1995 in North Richland Hills as the first municipally owned water park in Texas and now runs 23 attractions across 17 acres, less than three miles away. Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine adds an indoor option about seven and a half miles northeast. Bedford runs its own outdoor water park at Generations Park, which shortens the list of reasons to drive far in July. From Amherst Apartments, a 68-acre city park and the Linear Trails corridor are both inside two miles, and the Grapevine entertainment strip is a straight run up Highway 121. Residents regularly head to:
• Generations Park at Boys Ranch
• Bedford Trails Linear Park
• Meadow Park Athletic Complex
• Colleyville Nature Center
• NRH2O Family Water Park (North Richland Hills)
• Texas Star Golf Course (Euless)
• North East Mall (Hurst)
• Villages of Bear Creek Park (Euless)
• Great Wolf Lodge (Grapevine)
• Grapevine Mills
• Six Flags Over Texas (Arlington)
• Globe Life Field (Arlington)
Seven of those sit within four miles of Amherst Drive, which keeps a fair number of weekends off the freeway entirely.
Commuters living at Amherst Apartments are about six and a half miles from DFW International Airport in a straight line, with Highway 121 and the Airport Freeway carrying the rest of the Metroplex east and west. Major employers within a reasonable commute include:
• American Airlines (headquarters in Fort Worth, adjacent to DFW Airport)
• Dallas Fort Worth International Airport
• Texas Health Harris Methodist Hurst-Euless-Bedford (in Bedford)
• Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD (administration in Bedford)
• Bell Textron (headquartered in Fort Worth, with an assembly plant in nearby Hurst)
• Tarrant County College Northeast Campus (Hurst)
• Medical City North Hills (North Richland Hills)
• Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center (Grapevine)
• GameStop (headquarters in Grapevine)
• Kubota North America (headquarters in Grapevine)
• Sabre Corporation (headquarters in Southlake)
• Charles Schwab (headquarters in Westlake)
• Fidelity Investments (regional campus in Westlake)
Three of those, including the hospital and the community college campus, are within three miles of Amherst Drive.
Amenities at Amherst Apartments are built around renovated interiors and a small number of shared spaces that get steady use rather than a long list that mostly sits idle:
Renovated Kitchens with Quartz and Glass Tile
Every home has been renovated with quartz countertops, a glass tile backsplash, modern brushed nickel hardware and fixtures, and faux wood style floors. The kitchens are fully equipped, and some plans include an island. Select apartments carry a black appliance package and others a stainless package, so it is worth asking which finish is in the home you are considering.Swimming Pool, Sundeck, and Outdoor Kitchen
The pool sits inside a wooden deck with a separate spa and sundeck area, and the outdoor kitchen with its built-in grill is positioned at the edge of it. A BBQ and picnic area handles larger gatherings, and resident social events run on site through the year. In a Tarrant County summer this is the part of the property that earns its keep.
A 24-Hour Fitness Center and Courtyard Walking Paths
The fitness center is open around the clock and equipped with cable machines and workout benches, so the workout window is not tied to standard gym hours. Courtyards with a walking path run between the buildings. A resident Wi-Fi cafe and lounge and a business center cover the days when working from the couch stops working.
Reserved Covered Parking and In-Home Laundry Connections
Reserved covered parking is available, which is a genuine advantage through a North Texas hail season. Each home includes full size washer and dryer connections, and washer and dryer rentals are available for residents who would rather not buy the pair. Extra storage, a large balcony or patio, and package receiving round out the practical side, and the community welcomes up to two pets per home.Didn't find an answer?
